Noise Poem by Galina Italyanskaya

Noise

Rating: 5.0

Lies all around
Lies everywhere
Adverts and politics
Broadcast
Online

Lies on your mind
Curses and swears
Drop from your lips
Labels of mine

What is the cause?
Where is the truth?
Why have you chosen
To paint me black?

Making it worse
Thinking to soothe
Hoping you're closer
To getting back

Look in my eyes!
Hear my voice!
You're mistaken
In me so hard

All of your lies
Are nothing but noise
Love is the beacon
Inside your heart

One of the most problematic modern (postmodern?) phenomena is how news and views are cultivated to influence the minds of people all around the word to a particular 'shape' - the media is either supporting the Right Wingers, some Left Wingers, and very few are in the centre; but none, I daresay, are what we can call truly 'neutral'. We are being consumed, rather being the consumers. I agree with Daniel below me, this is an ASSERTIVE poem, and I may add, that this one has a more persuasive tone, that asks the readers to think for themselves. A wonderful and necessary poem Galina. Thank you for sharing.

'' Give up on the world, or raise your true voice above the lies. '' Daniel's right.. and you've chosen the right option, too.. ;) But now you have to write a poem on.. Inequality.. as you have to join the new editorial project ''POETRY AGAINST INEQUALITY''!

I see, Fabrizio. Well, I can't say that I dislike inequality to the same extent as I dislike violence, but certainly I have some thoughts about it.

LIES ALL AROUND / LIES EVERYWHERE - Our living space is saturated with lies, and how would we recognize a piece of truth were any there? We are reduced to two choice: Give up on the world, or raise your true voice above the lies. Your poem chooses the second option, and you make the most of it. I sense a crescendo of truth-telling as speaking out increases your confidence. I could feel some of the liars falling silent, even withdrawing. That's the power of truth you released. And at the very end you express the kind of idealism the liars hate: that LOVE combined with TRUTH is an unbeatable union of forces. You can tell I was hungry for a poem of assertion! !
