I had a thought
but it escaped me
though it is gone
it still plagues me

I hold its memory
but not its meaning
each day its fading
it is still remaining

I seek each thought
to learn its teaching
to gain the knowledge
as mine for keeping

to hold my thoughts
those deemed worthy
requires paper
pen and a hurry

Not all my thoughts
are worth the keeping
but the ones escaping
hold the most possibility

And though these thoughts
get away from me
I am never free
I wait for the time
they choose to return
their knowledge to me
so I can write them down
and they can let me be

This poem is about the fact that my mind generates phrases that I do not have time to write down...because I'm working, driving, or otherwise engaged...And the turn of a phrase, or a thought not written, becomes lost..it's still in my mind..a vague memory..And when I try to remember them, they will not return. so I can write them down. As far as this notion to improve... I believe critiquing on this premise is like telling someone you don't like the way they comb their hair because of the color. Have a nice day
