Nostalgia: Years Later

Years later,
As I passed by your streets,
I felt the same euphoria,
That I had felt years ago,
When you pretended to be mine,
And I was all yours.

Years later,
As I saw you in my dream,
The same pain charred my heart,
That I had felt years ago,
When you freed your hand,
From the clutches of mine.

Years later,
As I remember the days, gone,
The same ecstasy possesses me,
That had been there the night,
When you kissed me the last time,
And then you were gone.

Years later,
As I pass by your streets,
I wish I had never met you,
I wish you had never left,
And I had never loved you-
For it has been a costly affair,
Costing me my heart and my life.

Yeas later,
As I write these lines,
I wish you could be here,
To see the bleeding fingers,
To love and be loved, again,
But I know what happened- years ago,
Can never happen again- years later...

Poem of the Day

poet Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
