Not Doing Harm (By St. Thruvalluvar)

311. Though glorious wealth it brings,
the law of the noble is not to do harm to others.
312. Even against One who did harm out of malice,
it is the rule of the great not to retaliate.
313. When One harms the foe without provocation,
One can’t escape the sure woe of Time.
314. To punish the evil doers, forget their misdeeds
and do all good to make them feel ashamed.
315. When you fail to treat the pain of others as your own,
what is the use of your much vaunted wisdom?
316. Rid of doing painful things
which you yourself feel bitter.
317. It is a great virtue not to do even a little harm
at anytime, to anyone, which your mind breeds.
318. When you know what the evil things do to you,
why should you do such things to other living beings?
319. What harm you do to others in the forenoon
will visit you sure in the afternoon.
320. All evils revert to the owner. Shun evil deeds,
if you want to live a life free from evil.
