Not For The Swift Poem by Hannington Mumo

Not For The Swift

I guess you know of a bit of biblical stuff
About the early morning of some Monday,
When John and Peter found it tough
Outrunning each other to the Christ's tomb.

John outran Peter but upon victory
He could only muster a timid peep;
But Peter coming later new better glory:
He got into it and surveyed the empty linen.

Coming perhaps a distant third was Mary Magdalene,
Who not only meticulousy went in
But did a tearful adoration of the risen Lord,
And was given the honor of beholding the angels
Besides the empty heap of apparels,
And ultimately the glorified Lord!

Folks this serves to show a crucial point:
The race is not for the swift and agile,
But the patient and steadfast that God loves to anoint
For His chores that are delicate and fragile.
