Not Only Remember Our Soldiers, But Remember There Family's - Poem by Christopher DesrochesSimon

He stood at the altar on their wedding day
Shed a tear as his future bride walked his way
His bride in front of him reached over to dry his eyes
Reading out there vows as he vowed they’d never say their goodbyes
Uplifited, Enriched, Encouraged, Strengthened to be now as one husband and wife
With her he was destined for a love everlasting life
They will share life’s joys and pleasures
But there love is the real treasure
But it was till the day he received this one letter
Holding his wife as he had promised her that things would now be better
This letter read you have been drafted your country needs you we are sending you away
It tore his heart when she cried Dear oh Dear please stay
What will I do if I need you while you’re away?

He reached into his office drawer pulling out a moonstone they found as kids when they met
And said “when you our feeling lonely and miss me hold this stone close to your heart
Will be together, even though we are apart”

She took his hands and held them tight
Still wishing he did not have to go and fight
2 years he has served in the military his service time was to end
Opening a letter from the military wondering, what did he send?
It was a letter from the government saying her husband was lost and troops could not go back
She dropped the letter
Sharp pain began to overwhelm her
Waking up in the hospital to a voice saying Dear oh Dear please stay
What will I do if I need you while you’re away?
I held that stone to my heart everyday
Hoping you would be found and come home someday
It is your turn now to be strong in case I go away
I don’t know if I have any more strength to stay

She died the next morning in his arms; she had been fighting breast cancer

On remembrance day let’s not only remember the soldiers who died for our freedom but lets remember the families who lost their loved one, and were strong through their own battles and troubles as their husbands and wives were away
