Nowhere To Go Poem by Fiona Burgess

Nowhere To Go

Rating: 4.5

I stare from my open window
At the world below
Tiny people scurrying around
All dressed up with nowhere to go
And I sit and watch
From a palace of stars
How they rush to and fro
Between whizzing luxury cars
I shake my head in pity
Their lives are so empty and thin
And I gaze beyond the city streets
Slowly I begin to grin
Out beyond the steel and glass
Way past the fuel choked highways
Hidden in the haze of a sun glazed horizon
Stands a city of endless days
Where time means nothing
And pleasure can be heard from smiling lips
Where people meander through marble pavilions
And the fabric of life is free from rips
Unwilling, I return my hllow eyes
To the meaningless turmoil beneath me
One last sigh and from my dreams a wish to fly
To a city where I can be free
I turn away into a darkened room
Shutting the window on the world below
Closing my heart to the people scurrying
All dressed up and nowhere to go.
