Nubia Poem by Simon Samuda

Nubia

I wish I was a Nubian,
Black silk skin protected by melanin,
Slim body, distinguished facial features,
I wish I was a Nubian.

The epitome of beauty,
An example of civilization,
Along the River Nile,
I wish I was a Nubian.

Nubian pyramids,
Pharaohs buried,
No one ever told you,
It’s all true.

I wish I was a Nubian,
Reflections in the Nile,
It’s you, it’s me.
No one ever told you.
It’s no mystery.

Wanted to be an European,
King Alfred the Great,
First King of the United Kingdom.
It’s all true.

No one ever told you,
Nubian Pharaoh Taharqa (Tirhakah)
He is mentioned in the Bible.
True royalty.

It’s all true.
No one ever told you.
Never wanted you to know,
Where was Nubia,
Now, you do not wish to know.

Your wish has come true,
The Nubian is you,
You still do not know,
It's all true.
