Observations On An Evening Scene Poem by Eoin Smith

Observations On An Evening Scene

Darkness falls upon the world outside my window.
I sit and watch the light seep from the sky,
Replaced by a murky nothingness;
A nothingness which surrounds and constricts us.

I sit within my own brand of darkness,
My world remains unlit save for a small lamp to my left.
I observe the nighttime vista beyond my control;
The illuminated windows play host to joyous family moments,
Obscured by tightly-drawn curtains and unrolled blinds.

Nearby a cat howls;
An owl hoots its agreement.
Lights flash by as cars traverse the short stretch of road within my sight.

Inside I am calm, peaceful, serene.
