Odd Hour Lovers Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Odd Hour Lovers

Rating: 2.7

I’ve loved so many of you
recklessly,
no olfactory enough
no orchid too sweet
no garden bloomed enough,
no grandeur fitting.

I've built altars to you
strung participles from my heart,
spun putty soft evocative usherings,
countenanced every silver emotion band-aid
to be stripped from me
as I sought to wade deep depths into you;
I have been thrill-kissed, -dive bombed-
and surrendered all to you.

I’ve had magic walks;
idyllic and ebullient,
stuttering and delicious;

got all dressed up for company..
merged with you.

I have sought your emblenishments at odd hours;
laid hands upon you
silently.

In hushed tones;
I am content to be with
you
languidly.

But now you’re all gone
to other lives;
and lovers
and I sit
closeted with my redemption;
emptied arms;
staring down these later years
in wonderment about
how soon it came
and spent.
