Ode To Jamie Poem by Helen Lawson

Ode To Jamie

You were my husband and best friend – I'll always miss you
since you left I've cried my heart out many times
knowing all the while that it can never bring you back.
There was no warning in the end and no adieu.

The poet in you is the poet in me, so you said
I have a lifetime to reflect upon your words
and the love story we never finished
the hills too high and paths too hard to tread.

Tho we were apart for many years we always knew
in spirit we would always be together
how I wish we could have known your life would be so short
tho your writings always had that point of view!

I hope there really is some after-life
to make up for this world that was so cruel
some solace for the little boy inside your heart
who longed for love - and justice for his strife.

Farewell my poet, my love - keeper of my heart
not a day will pass that I won't think of you
remembering only the joys we shared when we were young
you live forever in my memory - in the end as at the start.
