Of A Forgotten Life Poem by Indigo Hawkins

Of A Forgotten Life

white walls in solitary halls utensils
clang doors bang open faraway
voices blank tiles whisper blame

cold breathing bathroom
promises clean and soft
apples surround 30 years

of tears transfused with fears
for children confused and cursing
elderly woman in a rehab bed

alcoholic husband 40 years dead
what’s going on inside her head?
haggard gaunt goodbyes taunt

dahlias open faraway voices
unreciprocated aquamarine
promises soft and clean

lash out cold water confused
cries rehab bathroom cursing
woman dies nursing echoes
