We had dared to hope...

We supported.
Campaign chants in the streets
Friendly fans on the air
A behind on the throne
That had once graced our floors
Our man!

Slowly emerging was the year
It's advancing light
Lending light to our hopes
Still yawning from merriment
The shell was dropped.
Bewildered!

The cries went to the streets
The hands laid off the work
N65 or nothing!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
N97 it is

Head turned from side to side
Robbed daily of nothing
The last had been stolen
Our dog had opened the gates wide

We dared to trust
Our calico's now pulled away
Our sores! The flies! ...
