Oil Boom Town Poem by Marilyn Lott

It was a time when life was hard
So when oil had been found
Boom towns began to spring up
Creating this Oklahoma town

Folks heard about it, you see
And poured into this busy area
When the oil finally gushed
There was literally mass hysteria

Refineries had to be built, of course
And more jobs opened up then
Life changed so very quickly
As this huge industry began

And once the area opened up
Homes were built and life flourished
Stores and schools were built as well
Families of course had to be nourished

I think it’s pretty exciting, don’t you?
To look at pictures from back in those days
We need to remember what led up to
Our wonderful modern day ways!
