Old Shadow The Cat Poem by Francis Duggan

Old Shadow The Cat

Rating: 5.0

Her whiskers in her prime years dark have turned a silver gray
Old Shadow the black persian cat has known a better day
She has not caught a rodent or bird for somewhile now this once nimble beast of prey
No longer what she used to be that's life as some might say.

When she gave birth to three kittens going back ten years ago
She was taken to the vet for to be desexed by her former owner Joe
She has been with Kate for three years now old kate is eighty three
And for each other it does seem they are good company.

Hunting for rats and mice and birds now too much for her indoors she mostly stay
And on the sofa for many hours in a deep sleep she lay
She is not the cat she used to be back in her glorious prime
Another victim like us all of the father of time.

On the sofa old Shadow lay and as she sleep she snore
She has not caught a rodent or a bird for a year or maybe more
For every life form in the World there is a final Fall
And us Humans are no different old age comes to us all.
