Old Shirt - Poem by Justin Tang

thank God for old shirts
that jump on your back in mornings
and say “Today is going to be
a good day! or at least,
I hope so.”

thank God for old shirts
that bore and annoy your friends
that stay with you
and have you daydreaming
of the possibility of saying
“I got this shirt free
at such and such a place”

thank God for washing machines
and other things
that wear out your clothes
that age them nicely
to let them show their marks of wisdom

thank God for old shirts and
their non conformity of cheapness
and the cheapness of non conformity
and any other correlations between the two

Nice piece, thought the ending could be stronger, but the subject was great and original, and the form was refreshing too. (Report) Reply
