Oldies Poem by George Hunter

Oldies

Rating: 4.0

Was lookin’ over my CDs
This lonely rainy day
Hoping to find some oldies
That I could play.
Found old Eddy Arnold and “The Cattle Call”
‘Bout roundin’ up the longhorns
Way down in the Fall.
And, “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart”
By Patsy Montana.
I can picture her now
Wearing her red bandana.
Here’s Jimi Hendrix and “Electric Ladyland”
Now there was a guy was a one-man band.
Played his ax lefty, upside down
Man, that cat could go to town.
And jumpin’ Janis Joplin
Rockin’ “Bobby McGee”,
A Kristofferson rhyme,
Too bad she had to check out
Way before her time.
How about a tune from “Best of Canned Heat”
Their “Bullfrog On My Mind”
Had a real neat beat.
And here’s Ted Nugent
Playin’ “White Line Fever”
That tune made me a real
Rock and roll believer.
Soon I had a stack, ‘twas two feet tall
If I play all these
I’ll be here until the Fall.
But that’s O.K.
I’ve nothin’ better to do
While listenin’, I’ll have a burger
And a nice tall brew.
Couldn’t think of a better way
To spend my time
Than enjoying the old tunes
And scribblin’ down this rhyme.

Nothing satisfies the soul like the sweet sounds of fine music...
