On Away In A Manger Amongst Others Poem by Francis Duggan

On Away In A Manger Amongst Others

I do not have anything against Jesus in case you tend to get me wrong
But the hymn 'Away In A Manger' it is such a boring old song
I've listened to it in my childhood at Christmas 'tis replayed many times night and day
On saying this disrespect to anybody's beliefs I do not intend for to pay.

Like 'Silent Night' just another hymn that refuses for to go away
And like 'Danny Boy' the Celtic warrior who never did grow old and gray
But I do like songs with a lilt in them songs I often heard as a boy
Still brings a smile unto my face and fills my heart with joy.

Of 'Away In A Manger' amongst others I quickly do tire
Of any movement towards self betterment me they do not inspire
I do not have a God as such for to whom I can pray
And I must be an atheist for to think in this way.

These old songs and hymns bring joy to many and that's what mostly does count
And my feelings on such to little does amount
'Away In A Manger' on the radio again
And why pay heed to me one who loves to complain.
