On Fame & Fortune

This, for me, is a spine-tingling,
Spine-chilling concept,
Scarier than any ghost town,
Or nightmares I had in childhood,
A phantom in the brain,
A poltergeist lingering in my room,
A banshee who steals all your guts.

Wannabes say I am just an ignoramus,
But that is because they are blinded to see.
Bliss of simplicity, a life free of desperation,
As I sit on a Jacuzzi recalling the humble years-
In the 70's, I was a magical child
Wearing a Coca-Cola trousers made by mom.
In the 80's, I was a clown
Who brought friends hysterical laughter.
In the 90's, a happy-go-lucky buccaneer.

Most of the time now, I am at the penthouse
Watching kids play along the Pacific;
When yesterday, I had that thrill in their faces.
I was carefree as the kite that I flew back then.
How I wish I could preserve
The footprints of my youth on the sand.

Could this be the dawn of a deeper drama,
As I soar the universe in a fancy jet?
Farewell to the amusing past, and
Say hello to the rainbow's end.

Not so long ago, everyday seemed like
My happiest birthday ever,
Even in the days I was down with fever.
But now, it is life under a microscope-
One tiny zit, and it is headline news!
