On New Year's Eve: Why Does God Allow Natural Disasters? Poem by Dr John Celes

On New Year's Eve: Why Does God Allow Natural Disasters?

This world is steeped in sinfulness,
That's growing day by day;
Thus, sin denies men happiness,
As man strays from God's way.

God gave to Moses Commandments
For man to follow, ten;
Disobedience brings punishments
To sinners, so often.

The heinous sins of mankind all
Makes wrath of God unfold;
Man - creature fails to hear God's call,
And heart of God turns cold.

The love of God made man as man,
And gave him soul matchless;
Sinfulness lessens man's life-span,
And makes his heart, thankless.

God fulfills every human need
But gives man freedom much;
The Maker cares for man indeed,
By angel's graceful touch.

And Nature is God's handiwork;
God controls her by words;
God's anger gives the earth a jerk,
When men behave like herds.

Disasters strike the earth at times -
Man has a role to play;
If man does things God's way all climes,
God holds furies at bay.

Though God permits some disasters,
Reluctantly in earth,
His heart is saddened by masters
Who rule the world by birth.

God's anger disappears quite fast;
His heart is moved by love;
His wrath is soon a thing of past,
His grace rains from above.

Out of the chaos blooms a bud
That turns grief into bliss;
But sinful men like chewing cud,
Return to sinfulness.

The loving God is kind to core,
Protecting man always;
He opens him, many a door
To help man keep His ways.

The mind of God is hard to know;
His ways are strange but good;
Man must keep praying to Him, Oh,
And ask Him for soul's food.

God feels so sad when man is sad;
His anguished heart fountains;
He chides the demons, who are mad,
His love for man mountains.

O God of mercy, love, we pray
‘Stall Nature's furies now! '
Man cannot live without Your say,
To God, men always bow.

Soothen the distressed souls, O God!
We need your help always;
Let miracles spring from each rod;
Let calm prevail all days.
