On Nights Like This Poem by Lora Colon

On Nights Like This

Rating: 5.0

On nights like this, lonely hearts pray,
Life's meaning loses clarity,
The moon lends a sympathetic ear
And I welcome his charity

But on nights like this, all is bleak,
If the sun could rise from its sleep,
Its warmth and light could not dispel
This cold darkness that runs so deep

On nights like this, I hear him call,
A cruel fate keeps him from my view,
Uncaring angels guard the gate,
Refusing to let him pass through

On nights like this, I imagine
The pleasures that make love divine,
I reach for the forbidden fruit,
Knowing it can never be mine

On nights like this, prayer is worthless
When lovers are so far apart,
There is no comfort, peace eludes
My distraught, long-suffering heart

What good is love without the thrill
Of a tender, passionate kiss,
Without the warmth of his embrace,
What good is love.... on nights like this

So beautiful. Goes straight to heart. When heart cries out nothing seems to appease. Thank you for sharing.
