On The Inside Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

On The Inside

sitting there, she watches wide-eyed
they swear she isn’t listening
they expected her to cry

she can’t tell why this happens
she simply “isn’t there”
so when it’s time to relate
she just doesn’t care

but nobody knows on the inside
she tears them down
exposing jealousy and pride
screaming back, her anger in their faces

she wants to show them how she lied
about the feelings cruelty displaces
and the hate she denied

but it’s only on the inside
