One Afternoon In A Library... Poem by Boishakhi Mitro

One Afternoon In A Library...

We had just joined highschool,
It was a library period i remember.
When i caught a person tearing a page from a book!
The stupid that I am,
I warned the person not to do so.
The result was a threatening...
'will see you after class'the voice said!
As if I cared a hoot!
Used to beating up bullies,
I never botherd and comfortably forgot all about the episode!
It was a blessing that we were in different sections,
Our paths didnt cross much,
And whenever they did,
Sparks were sure to be seen!
Then came the holidays and to our horror,
Found our parents knew eachother!
Gradually the arrogant bully became a pal,
And after two years, we were bunched in the same section!
Acquaintances grew and we got on well together
Passed higher seccondary, left for seperate colleges
Lived in two cities yet never apart!
We were good friends, comfortable with each-other.
But the society needs conformation.
Every realtion had to have a name according to their customs!
Young at heart, with no ideas of commitment,
We enjoyed each-others company,
Liked to be around one-another.
And that was what had them bothered!
We never saw it coming
What the world had already seen!
Happy in our spheres, the world never mattered.
But matter it did, when the inevitable happened finally!
Yet all possibilities had died by then.
There was no turning back.
New horizons waited
New frontiers conquered....
The pain remained somewhere in a dark-frozen corner,
Today the aches revisit,
Whever our destinies cross.
My silence prays for your well-being, my love.
