One Guarantee Anyone Cannot Give Poem by Francis Duggan

One Guarantee Anyone Cannot Give

The youth of the World their lives of them ahead
And youth will have it's fling as has often been said
But having said that there is no guarantee
That a twenty year old will outlive one like me
Into his sixth decade in fact sixty three
Balding and gray as a badger with a poor memory
To you there is one guarantee anyone cannot give
And that is on how many years you will live,
On how long we live the Reaper does decide
For to live to be old you need luck on your side
Of ill health, natural disasters, accidents and wars it would be true to say
Many young people in the World are dying every day
And as for me I will live for as long as I can
And hopefully die without pain as a very old man.
