One-Horse Town

This is a one-horse town
I'm the only rider
this is a broken town
I'm the only one who holds it down
the barns and the stables
have gone haywire
with cards on every tables
they've all turned into bars
I'm a car on a cable
watching over my one horse.

This is a one-horse town,
I'm the only cowgirl
if and when I go away,
the cows will come and eat my horse
a dusty old saddle
and a broken stethoscope
are two of the only things
that keep us off the dirt
in the one-horse town
I'm this only cowgirl.

A dusty pair of boots
('cause everything's made of dust)
keep me on my horse
'cause it's the only one I've got
but my horse has no name,
my horse has no soul,
it's me in the mirror
it has nowhere to go
in this one-horse town,
the only one's a ghost.

I run around roping,
trying to catch the air
but I already know that
there's nobody here,
if I could catch my horse,
maybe it would take me home
but the tornadoes made of dust
and mountains too high to see above
or to dream of going around
hold me down

in this one-horse town.

I want to ride the range,
I want to be free
I want to shake my mane
in the evening breeze
I want to find a place
to dream
I want to find a one-horse town
that has many one-horses
I want to find somebody just for me
so our horses can run away.

I need to get out of this one-horse town
'cause maybe I'm the only one-horse around
maybe I'm the only one who still has a soul,
maybe I'm the only one who isn't sold to this world
maybe there really are no horses to take me home
maybe there is no home to run away to
but a horse needs a herd, it can't die alone
and I hate any place that brings me down
I hate any place that's a dead one-horse town
I hate any place that keeps me from going home

to my one-horse town.
