One Life Poem by Sam Byron

One Life

he couldn't
tell
he couldn't
say
his mouth too
swollen
his face too
bloody

why
wouldn't
you listen

the pleas
in his voice
the tears
in his eyes

in the
back alley
you beat away
his confidence

in the
back alley
you took away
his life

why?
for what?

a choice
he made

to be himself
and openly gay

he didn't
want to live
two lives

and for that....
you took the one
that he had
