One Nation Under God Poem by Katherine Perry

One Nation Under God

Rating: 4.5

Once upon a time
'One Nation Under God' we'd be
The birthright of what our nation finds
To believe in Liberty

Now the ties that bind the strongest
Are the ones whom are held by faith
Though some don't have it, it's been
believed to last the longest
Leading our country through those pearly
gates

Upon the power of a dollar bill
Is how we think gets us ahead
And year after year most are struggling
still
In a nation where many of the poor need
fed

There are those who now teach the children
at home
Where they are also taught how to pray
School was once a place we heard we are
under one God alone
But is what our teachers now cannot say

What kind of strength do we represent to
our kids
Is it the kind that gives them hope
Or are they learning now that man-made
things holds the power in how to live
And if you have that, it makes it easier
to cope

You would have thought by now our nation
would be ahead
And we are in some things, but not where it
counts
More poverty, more crime and now more soldiers
dead
And peace only to those who have money in the
right amount

Close should be the brotherhood of all men
Holding our heads high with pride
But now it's seen and tatooed on skin
Instead of our hearts inside!
