One (Part One) Poem by Apolitos Kanenas

One (Part One)

One mouse
One
In a vast empty plain
Of darkness
Endless darkness
No matter how far the mouse runs
It can never find
A Way
To escape
The darkness

I need light
To find a way
Out of this trap
And be freed

I am lost

One boy
Tries to stay inside
In safety
But every night
Sneaks outside
And takes a small pebble
Just one
And hides it in his pocket
Each day he does the same
And each day he hides his stones
From everybody
And slowly
The rocks become too heavy
Too heavy to carry
All at once
The boy is trapped

Find me someone
Anyone
To share this burden
Of carrying these rocks

I am lost
I have to much guilt to move on

One bird
A youngling
One hurricane
The bird tries to fly away
But it is
Too weak
To battle the storm
Every bit of progress is smothered
Every yard flown
Is five blown backwards

I need to find the strength
To beat the howling winds
But I can't find the strength

And I am alone
I am lost
I have too much guilt to move on
And I have no more strength to fight

One boy
One me
Billions of people
One me
Against trillions of myself
One me
Lost
One me
Too much guilt
One me
No more strength
One me
Can't move on
One me trapped
One me
And no help
One me

One me
Made one choice
One stupid decision

One me
One choice
One ruined life

One me
One choice
Just one
Then another
And another

One me
Help

One me
One

Lord
Lift me upon your shoulders
And carry me
One me
Home

One me
One
