One Valentine's Poem by Engy El Ghanam

One Valentine's

It's miraculous what a single moment of time could capture
& how it fixes up what pain would rapture
Comes round the heart to seize your thoughts away from you
To the land where all beliefs come true
In a day like this so many years ago I still recall
On the pavement, backs to the wall
You knot your hands to mine n looked me in the eye
Laughed and asked me not to ask you why
Then handed me a card with words in black
You have the keys to my heart so love me back
The rose you gave me I still keep
It carves a smile in me so deep
I owned the world, or was so to me
You were all my eyes could see
So many years ago I had the love
Only the memory now I have
I long to feel the same again
The warmth I can no more regain
Days passes by, weeks, month and years
Frozen ever since, no smiles no tears
I cannot stand this linger on no more
Am bitter hearted and am sore
I want to give my heart away
To live a moment that comes to stay
Stuck in the miracle of the memory I believe
You may have left but grace don’t leave
And graceful as it was I still can feel the same
No strings attached no blame
The strength I have I cannot share
And the burdens of the feeling you won't bare
On your own you go and on my own I remain
All the chances went in vain
I walked to where the signs have lead
I kept your rose. But the rose is dead
