Only A Dream... Poem by Katniss Everdeen

Only A Dream...

'Marry me? '
You say in a soft, intense voice
'I promise to love you,
And that is my choice'

You get down on one knee
And dig deep in your jeans
Out comes a ring, as you say
'Lilli, will you be my queen? '

I scream 'Yes'
I hold out my hand
As you slip the ring on, you say
'Don't worry, it's already planned'

'Our parent's have arranged it
We are to be wedded next spring
Outside, in the gazebo
Where the bluebirds sing'

You open your mouth
To try and say more
But the whole world shatters
And I wake up, facing the door.

It was just a dream
My prince was not real
I cannot begin to describe
The pain that I feel

I open my mouth,
And start to scream
The moment I realise
It was only a dream
