Only Few Do Make The Grade Poem by Francis Duggan

Only Few Do Make The Grade

Though some ask me through email their verses to criticize
I am not a literary expert that they ought to realize
I have never been to Uni don't have literary degrees
Though I suffer of a penning addiction an incurable disease.

What is good or not good poetry is not for me to say
Everyone who make the effort to write does their best in their own way
In a success driven Literary World everyone cannot be great
Only few the reading public do see fit to celebrate.

Those who make vast sums of money out of writing to say the least are rare
Cannot say that I have ever met a literary millionaire
I've never spoken to a writer who has won a major literary prize
I do not socialize with literati does that come as a surprise.

Of the title of poet I am not worthy though I pen stuff every day
I am just a rhyming dabbler with words I do like to play
In a World of millions of writers only few do make the grade
'Tis a hard trade to succeed in the time honoured Wordsmith Trade.
