Only Fifteen Poem by Heather Schroer

Only Fifteen

I hear it cry
Through mounds of flesh
I hear it breathe
Though it's not born yet

I miss it
Though it hasn't come
For this is my first
And only one

I hear it breathe again
And this is on the outside
I hear it cry again
And so forth every night

His daddy has left
He couldn't handle the job
Now I wanna leave
Go in a dark corner and sob

We should've learned our lesson
When another mother was seen
But we were young and ignorant
And only fifteen
