Only God Knows

must be some kind of scientist
watches while I heal
takes everything literally
doesn't know which parts are real
where I come from we call that
looking from the outside in
hard to get to know someone
if you never talk to them
been labeled, sneered at, picked apart
most of my life
I'm not something to be studied
I'm someone who needs to be loved
and held tight
damn right I'm afraid
twice I gave everything
but only once gave my soul
I'm surviving this time
because last time I didn't
that's the part that you didn't know
but we are similar, me and you
took every right step
chose the right thing each time
but really it didn't help
so tell me on your second round
bet you didn't fall as hard as the first
Did proper become the model
as passion and impulse disappeared?
Maybe it's only my story
for I've steered far from this so long
Lord knows I didn't see you coming
but now I see you gone
