Only Mortal Poem by Tondana Fatimah Seebaway

Only Mortal

Rating: 4.5

The beating of the heart comes to a halt
The blood that runs through the veins seizes to run its course
The brain home to great ideas abruptly shuts down
The soul that fills the life vessel suddenly gives up
Dreams are shattered
Loved ones are devastated
Brave and capable ones are rendered powerless
The essence of this world,
Its laughters, its pain; its treasures, its bane
All become meaningless
For the life that was once stored in mortal chests
Is taken out by its owner with no room for amends
Because the time has come without a sway
Do not be deceived, it does not delay
Prior to your existence it was appointed
And at the peak of your being, it will make its way
What then do you have to gain by your evil ways?
When you shall be summoned to account for all your days
You better face reality
And mend your ways
And be mindful of your duty
To Him who gives you grace
Fulfil your purpose while you accord Him all thanks and praise
For the life of this world is not eternal
But everything including you is only mortal
