Only Sleeping Poem by Lloyd Savage

Only Sleeping

Please do not awaken me
I'm having a good dream
And it is about us.
We are together,
We are free,
We are full of love
And harmony.
There are beautiful flowers
All around and you are in white
Perhaps your wedding gown?
Doesn't matter though
Such a beautiful site,
For we are together tonight.
Yes, together so full of love,
And youth, And so free,
So-Please
Do not awaken me!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was in a special exhibit of distinguished Louisiana poets at the Kent Plantation House in Alexandria, LA where the Central LA Poet's Society displayed their works and were also on Channel 5TV special people, special report with Ethma Odom in November 1994. We left the display poems on the table in their frames and many of us went to eat.
As we did when we returned a lady who had lost her husband recently said as she was walking by the tables she saw this poem typed in script on rainbow paper. It just so happened that the sun shining through the trees made one single beam of sunlight which was shining down onto that poem in this frame.
As she read it she felt the anointing she said of a comfort and the words too as she read was just what she felt would have been and she believes to this day was her deceased husband speaking to her and comforting her. I felt honored by that and hope today she is a happy lady today even though I only met her that one time. So if you wish to start just a society of poets where you are I say go for it. Share the works with the public out there, you never know whose heart you will touch and restore to them a hope to continue living.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The beauty of this piece is its simplicity. Simplicity so tenderly expressed. The most important, precious things in life are often the simplest. Doesn't matter though. Such a beautiful site, For we are together tonight. Yes, together so full of love, And youth, And so free. That's my favorite line. Thanks for sharing.
