Only Then Poem by Carla Hart Ruber

Only Then

Thank you Heavenly Father, for being
Such comfort in our times
Of overwhelming sorrow.
Thank you for sending whispers of hope
Of a much better and happier tomorrow.

When the waves of devastation come
Crashing through our lives;
When our bodies, minds and spirits
Feel too weak to ever rise,
Above the seas of torrential tears
Falling ‘round our feet.
When the pain’s so bad and
The moans too great;
When we ever-presently weep.

We can’t understand.
We can find no reason
For these burdens we must bear.

We know not why,
We must scream and cry;
Hurting so bad, we too
Wish to die.

Wondering how
This had to happen?
Wondering what
Could we have done?

It’s so hard to let go,
To realize,
That You alone know,
What was and is yet, to come!

Only when this thought
Does break through
The depths of the agony
Of our defeat,
Can we even start to mend.

Only then, can we begin to give in.
Only then, can we even feel
There might possibly
Be a chance for
This unbearable misery to end.

Only then.

Wow! ! My friend in San Diego has a brother who is dying - I think I will send her this. She has a very strong faith and I know she'll appreciate it, especially now.
