Open Poem by Alejandro Torres

Open

I took the moon
And cradled her with my heart
So they could mend
Together
I took to drink
So my mind and spirit could bend
Forever

But I left pieces of you
Between hemispheres
Resting on clouds
Floating back to Earth
Or dropping like flash bombs
On the hearth
Of your mind

They said there was a method to madness
I thought it was love and kindness
So I gave you both in abundance
Cause I wanted you mad for me
But your eyes held terrible confessions
And your heart brimmed with love’s deception
You said to eat cake
But I feasted on betrayal

It’s a fools disease
To be blind to the truth
Because of love
But the Fates dealt you to me
Like Tarot Cards
And this Snow White
Opened the Door again
For you

But this time I’m not afraid
Of the things you say
Just the things I don’t see
Clearly in front of me
But I’m keeping my view open
Since you’ve done the same
With your mind

So lets make a grand time
Of the life we have left
Time flies by fast
Like airplanes
In September
It can be gone on a dime
And lost like a sense
Like I was

So we’ll keep the lines open
The flow in check
And not fret
