Open Heart Poem by Weldon Davis

Open Heart

No anesthesia
Prognosis looks grim
2 years almost since
The operation
No resuscitating him
Eyes open
Nervous twitch
Insomnia
Diet being regulated
Not particularly to his
Liking
No exercise regimen
Just this constant
Ache'n
Waking
KNOWING it's never enough
The replacement
No replacement
Just an empty
Space
Where it used to be
Life has become
No life at all
Since
Surgery
