Others Have Gotten There Poem by Shalom Freedman

Others Have Gotten There

OTHERS HAVE GOTTEN THERE

Others have gotten there
I have not
It seems I never will.
All the years
All the effort
It is not easy to be a failure
And it is not easy to see
That one has lived one’s life for an illusion-

I thought that in time
The recognition would come
It has not –
Time is running out –
I will have to lie forever
In the same silence in which I lived.
