Our Distant Song Poem by Thomas Bates

Our Distant Song

you're the kind of friend I look quietly to in times of distress.
the praises of your kind words bring a humble happiness
and conversation is sweet w/ it's musical songs of tenderness.
if a flower,
you'd chat with the others, bending
gracefully
in the winds.

I don't expect more from you than your friendship.
I'm sorry if I came on too strong;
I haven't seen a face like yours in so long.
I'm happy when you share your thoughts w/ me -
but I'm careful, too.
I don't want to add any kind of broken tune to our distant songs.
what I wish to say
is 'happy birthday, everyday."
(you deserve a clean start
to finish mending your heart,)

sincerely,
your friend, Thomas.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
this isn't a love poem, although I composed it for a female friend of mine. she probably saved my life in several ways, and so these words of thanks are the least I could do.

Aww....though not meant as a poem of love, in a way it is a poem of love. The love of friendship which can sometimes be a love that is so much stronger than a physical love. Your words are truly beautiful in this poem of friendship. Would make a great reading in a Birthday card!
