Our Independence Poem by Gregory (gshaw57) Upshaw

Our Independence

Crackling, popping, explosive
Sounds
That comes from the
Night
As day turns to
Night—

Cannons blowing
Rockets glowing
Families celebrating
For it’s our country’s’ birthday
Sweet land of liberty— SO WE SAY!

Justice, liberty
Sweet Freedom
This is the aphorism
The salutation for
What our country represents—SO WE SAY!

For we are
The representation of
Evolution
For whom all emerge
Through revolution—

Centuries, decades
Of countless change
Brought us to this moment
‘Our Independence ‘—SO WE SAY!

So here me now!
Our independence
Is embedded within
Our immigration—

From indenture servants
To slavery
To outcasts
We all celebrate
Our Independence Day—
