Our Kids' Rocking Horses Poem by Cleveland W. Gibson

Our Kids' Rocking Horses

Rating: 5.0

As a boy, I said, I wished we
kids might ride upon our
rocking horses for the rest of
our lives. My wish came true to
let me share my life with the
girl next door,
I called her
Angel. She too had a rocking
horse. So together we'd ride to
lands beyond the sea, where
the streets shone of antique
gold, and kids would never
grow old but it seemed so wild,
that strange dream. Then life
took on a sweet memory as life
acted out halcyon days for
Angel and me. And so full
circle, like a power beat our
children play on our rocking
horses, it's their sudden craze
while Mum and me sit still
watching, drinking wine, in the
sunset blaze thinking of those
toys of ours and hearing
mandolins play a love song
across the sea for us and
Napoli.
