Our Minds Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Our Minds

Very much a part of you.
I am.

Very much apart.
Are our points of view.
Although...
Everything we do,
Has a similar connection.

Our minds.
Used we do to choose,
To follow behind others.
If it is a wish that is wanted,
For an approval to us given.

Our minds.
We allow to think.
To permit often an attitude.
Is that familiar to you too?
With an excusing of it done.

Awaiting to hear,
A forgiveness to later come.
Welcoming to appease,
To satisfy and please...
An unsolicited opinion given.
Knowing...
The thoughts you have,
Had not...
In desperation sought,
Anyone's permission.
Regardless,
Of the circumstances.
Or...
Conditions perceived,
To be appropriately etiquette!

Very much a part of you.
I am.
And...
Very much apart.
We are and can be.

Yet...
Our minds are no different.
When we make decisions.
For ourselves.

And this done to do...
Is a choice we seldom,
Refuse not to do to choose.
Although...
It is in the acceptance,
Of our separate choices...
To make.
That often result in conflict.

Why?
If we both agree to disagree.
Does that process of learning,
Stop?
And who remains,
The benefactor of that action?
