Our Race Poem by Holly Jamestone

Our Race

We first met as children
And quickly would know
Our bond was a gift
Of what life can bestow

My hand on your shoulder
Your love in my heart
I couldn’t imagine
We ever would part

We’d play in the sand and
Have tea parties too
And as we grew up
I came to love you

We both were the same
In our eyes don’t you see
A big world out there
With just you and me

God and his Angels
Were looking our way
All in approval
Of two kids at play

Our teen years were challenged
But with heads held high
We walked arm in arm
As we looked to the sky

We went off to college
We both kept in touch
Our union untainted
I loved you that much

And one day we wed
With the blessings of all
Two hearts intertwined
This our first curtain call

No onlookers brooding
No scowl on a face
No color-blind fools
No mention of race

OUR RACE we had won
Arm in arm, heart to heart
And never Dear One
Will we two ever part
