Our Time Poem by Michael Peterson

Our Time

The years have come and gone
Flying by so quickly
When we were young, life was simple
Playing in the yards, listening to the radio
Walking safely around the town
Hanging at the soda shop
Cruisin on the City circuit
Bell bottom jeans and T-shirts were the style
Long hair and wild times
The teen years were the best
Partying with the rest
Beer and swimming at the lake
Smoking a joint or two
Making love in the woods
Jamming and chatting to the radio
The twenties finishing school
Going to work and growing up
Hanging at the bars with a few
Before we knew it marriage and kids
The wild times diminishing quickly
Thirties, we found our niche
Buying houses and family cars
Our childhood dreams all but gone
Forties becoming free again
Children growing fast, off to college
Leaving the nest so empty
Lonely the feelings are
Living alone after so many years
Finding our common grounds
Freedom to roam the world
With the Fifties coming
Looking to retire, travel the world
Dreaming of relaxing
Ending with grand children
Sitting and watching the little ones
The cycle of life messing with us
Looking forward to the Sixties
Aging is a splendor thing
Enjoy the years as we go along
The long ride of life for you and me
