Out Of Africa Poem by Paul Butters

Out Of Africa

From Africa we came,
Us Homo Sapiens by name.
Neanderthals and Homo Erectus
Swept aside.
Like ants in columns we marched along the shore,
To spread, a virus, spawned world-wide.
In Arctic climes we all turned white,
Just like Neanderthals, who came before.
Our brown skins faded in the dark,
Yet underneath, we stayed the same.
From scavenging hunter gatherers we
Turned our hands, to till the soil and tend those herds.
Great cities grew,
Fine cultures, arts and books.
These social networks gave our race the edge.
We have our faults
That is for sure.
Genocide is more than a bore.
From signal smoke, to mobile phones,
Collecting seeds, to making clones.
The internet is calling out to us.
We Google, Facebook, YouTube too.
Let’s talk to people all around the world.
Communicating is our strength.
It’s just what humans do.
