Treasure Island

Mandolyn ...

out of my cage

today i face the brightness
to hug a few dust bunnies
covering freedom

it gave me a reason
to open the blinds, look at the birds
creating havoc
in the roof again-

twenty four hours
of watching the landscape
fade to a dirty grey-

yet i stay
replaying a certain song
moving dishes in the kitchen
to a shelf
that never gets attention-

wishing i could be a spoon
on top of all the others

a free ride
through the mouth
of a hungry human being-
scratch his tongue as i scrape off
the top of his misgivings
