Overworked Fred Poem by Francis Duggan

Overworked Fred

Woken by a heavy knock on his door
Late in the evening around half past four
Tired Fred shouted loudly please just go away
I need to rest up on my rostered off day.

Come back later if with me you wish to speak
As I have been working too hard all the week
And I need at least a few more hours in bed
Life is so hard on poor overworked Fred.

He knows too well of the hardships of life
And he works like a slave to finance his ex wife
And their children to upkeep and huge bills to pay
So he needs to rest up on his work free day.

My ex wife has a lover he says with disgust
And because of her women I cannot trust
And I must pay her maintenance that doesn't seem fair
If her lover man is not paying his own share.

And worse for poor Fred he's burdened with the cross
Of having to work for a demanding boss
And with an ex wife to finance and children to upkeep
on his rostered day off he would need extra sleep.

Late in the evening around half past four
And woken by a heavy knock on his door
Tired Fred shouted loudly please just go away
I need to rest up on my rostered off day.
