Paint A Picture Of Me Poem by Amy Stuart

Paint A Picture Of Me

Try to understand,
Look into my heart,
Before you are convinced,
From what sets me apart.
Just like a painted picture,
It displays a physical image,
Your visual concept of me
Is all you have that's given...
From what you see,
You fear, hear the opinions carved up into your head, and breathe
A complex description of the abnormal me...
Misjudged, misguided, guiled, rejected...
This image of me is what has protected...
The truth inside that I hide...
Beneath is opposite of all your lies...
You think you know...
Know the skin off my back, who I am, how I see, think, and hear...
The human consciousness has a sense to denounce and forbear....
Everything.
Just everything...
You'll never understand the nights I suffered...
Suffered from physical and mental fatal abuse,
Discrimination and rejection hand and hand was used...
So you never ever saw my artistic abilities and all; my voice, knowledge, determination, experience, and creativity was to be left unseen.
All you have is this painting,
A mere image of me...
And so I'm disinclined from almost everything....
The ones who will see it clearly will look into my eyes,
and look into my heart to understand the truth that I seek morally everyday
in a world that is not promised the day afterwards.....
And just to think about it, your controversial opinions are only existent in your dreams and fantasy...
So you paint a picture of me....
