Painted Face Poem by DAUGHTER OF A CRACKED MIND

Painted Face

She stands waiting, cold and lone
Face painted, body half covered
Aged beyond, her tender years

Gone from her face, the innocents
Lost without a trace, cold and alone
Thin and weak, she shivers with fear

No more child hood shoes, for her to lace
Red heels upon her feet, she stands to wait
City lights shine, to see her tear stained face

Now hungry on a street corner, she waits
A tender thirteen, just barely a woman
Her girlish smile, a night's painted face

Cars slowly roll by, windows down
Circles the block, they come to a stop
A face barely lit, her next trick

Car door opens, in the seat she hops
Pushing away her fear, he seem nice enough
How much for the night, she speak her price

But nice he's not; he likes to think he's tough
Pains the game he played, he loves it rough
She fights for her life, while he beats

Morning comes, eyes swollen shut, taste of blood
In a ally she laid batter and bruised, barely alive,
Discarded like a night's trash, she can not move

Painted face she paid the highest price,
She rolled the dice, played the game
And almost lost her precious life
